Nathchitoches man arrested in accident receive fourth DWI

Kona L. Richards of Many was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Natchitoches Parish Monday night, according to the Louisiana State Police Troop E.

Richards, 59, was a passenger in the front seat of a Chevrolet SUV.

The accident occurred about 11:14 p.m. when a 1996 Ford F-250 traveling north on Louisiana Highway 1 crossed the center line and struck a southbound 1999 Chevrolet SUV head-on.

James Travis Jones, 27, Natchitoches, was the Ford’s driver. He was taken the Natchitoches Parish Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 33-year-old Dynise Colbert from Natchitoches, received minor injuries in the crash. Three juvenile passengers, ages 11, 13, and 8, in the Chevrolet received minor to moderate injuries in the crash. They were all taken the Natchitoches Parish Hospital for treatment.

JonesĀ  was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, four counts of negligent injuring, DWI 4th, open container, no seat belt, and driving under suspension. Jones was booked at the Natchitoches Parish Correctional Center.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troop E Troopers have investigated sixteen fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in eighteen fatalities.
