Catholic school teacher, coach accused of having sex with student

A teacher and coach at Holy Savior Menard Catholic High School was arrested on a warrant at 4:30 p.m. today and charged with four counts of simple rape and three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, according to Rapides Parish Sheriff Chuck Wagner.

Cross, 28, of 323 Philadelphia Rd., Pineville, is accused of having an improper relationship, including sexual acts, with a 16-year-old girl, who attended the school where he worked, Wagner said.

Wagner said the incidents didn’t occur on school property.

Cross was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail. No bond has been set.

Head Start/Early Head Start recruiting new students

The 2010-11 Head Start/Early Head Start programs offered through the Cenla Community Action Committee are recruiting and pre-registering Rapides Parish children 5 years old and younger in throughout May.

Any 4- or 5-year-old child eligible to return to Head Start, but who will be attending pre-kindergarten, should not re-enroll in the Head Start program. Children already enrolled in the Head Start/Early Head Start Program are encouraged to remain in the program.

Parents enrolling children in the programs for the first time should provide a state-issued birth certificate, income verification (2009 W-2 form, welfare budget sheet and/or Social Security statement), Social Security numbers for all household members and immunization records.

No child will be excluded from participating in the program due to race, color, creed, sex, national origin or disability after certain guidelines have been met. Services will be provided for disabled children.

Rapides Parish Pre-K, kindergarten registeration set for week of April 26

Pre-registration for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes in the Rapides Parish School System will be held the week of April 26.

If your work schedule will not allow you to come at the appointed time, please call the school and reschedule another day to complete the registration process.

Classes for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 30, 2010, for Pre-K, and  they must be 5 years old by Sept. 30, 2010, for kindergarten.

Parents should register their children at their zone schools.

The following documents are needed at time of registration: official birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security card, proof of address, and family income verification needed to complete lunch application.

All new kindergarten students are expected to register at this time even if the child attends the Head Start Four Year Old program.

Also Any children who want to attend Pre-K next fall must register.  Students now enrolled in Pre-K who are attending out-of-zone schools must register at their home school.  Students that expect to move before the 2010-2011 term must register at their new school.

Also,  Pre-K students who are currently enrolled and will attend the same school next fall can call the school office to confirm.
