Avoyelles Parish sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who allegedly used a blue steel revolver to rob the Cottonport Bank in Effie, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
About 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, the lone gunman first came into the bank acting as if he wanted to make a loan. He left and returned a short time later pointing the gun at the teller while demanding money.
The suspect waited to brandish the weapon until after the single bank customer left the bank. He allegedly took an undetermined amount of money and left employees bound at the wrist in a a storage closet.
Authorities suspect the gunman fled north into Rapides Parish. Deputies vaguely described the suspect as being a white man between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall with shoulder length white hair. He was wearing a dark colored ball cap with the “CAT” logo, dark sunglasses, a yellow buttoned down shirt, blue jeans and brown boots.
Deputies suspect the gunman may have been driving a late model Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck with balck trim on the fender.
Anyone with information relating to the armed robbery should call the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Department at (318) 253-4000. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
