Dr. Shivani Negi with the Alexandria Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pineville, was arrested Tuesday, March 23, when she turned herself in to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Maj. Jerome Hopewell.

Negi, 38, of 5993 Hanna, was booked on a charge of simple assault. Hopewell said the VA’s police is handling the case.

However, Tammie Arnold, the hospital’s public affairs officer, said she was not aware of the arrest.

“I do know that another employee made allegations against Dr. Negi, but I’m not aware of her arrest,” Arnold said.

Negi is one of two VA Medical Center doctors and the hospital’s administrator accused in a lawsuit file May 26, 2009, in the U.S. District Western District of Louisiana.

Floyd Hamilton III filed the suit on behalf of his father, Floyd Hamilton Jr. The other defendants are Hollis Reed and Barbara Watkins.
