UPDATE: DWI arrest made in two-vehicle accident

Damien McNally, 28, 5204 Robinson Dr., has been charged with DWI 1st offense, failure to maintain control, vehicular negigent injuring and driving with a suspended license following a two-vehicle accident on the morning of Friday, March 26, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The accident occurred about 7:15 a.m. on Bayou Rapides Road in front of Rosewood Apartments.

According to the accident report, McNally was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan west when it left the roadway to the right, traveling about 125 feet, turning counter clockwise, traveling another 196 feet before crashing into the passenger side a 2003 Ford Taurus in the east bound lane of the highway. The Taurus, driven by Courtney Lowe, 21, 4051 Bayou Rapides Road, Apt. 601, hit the ditch, with the van landing on top of it.

Witnesses reported following the accident, McNally got out of the van and sat on the ground while a passenger remained in the vehicle. Lowe climbed out of her vehicle. At least one witness said McNally allegedly had beer cans in his vehicle.

Acadian Ambulance took McNally to Christus  St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. McNally told officers he didn’t remember the crash. The last  thing he remembered, according to the report, was “adjusting the radio.”

The  Louisiana State Police, Alexandria Fire Department, and Alexandria Police Department responded to the scene.  Acadian Ambulance took the injured to the hospital.
