A Tioga High School student was arrested Monday morning for allegedly having a handgun in his vehicle that was parked on campus, said Maj. Jerome Hopewell of the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Mark A. Jones Jr., 18, was charged with possession of a firearm on school property. A second student received a juvenile citation and was released to his mother.
The school’s principal received information that a student may have a weapon on campus. The assistant principal, along with a school resource officer, searched Jones’ vehicle and allegedly found a .22 caliber handgun in the glove box, Hopewell said.
The case is being investigated.
