Boyce man arrested in ASH’s parking lot suspected of DWI

Christopher Squyres, 29, 30 Liberty Hill, Boyce was arrested Friday following a police chase that ended in the parking lot of Alexandria Senior High School, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

He was arrested on charges of DWI, hit and run, flight from an officer, and aggravated battery. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail.

The incident started at the Kwik Pantry, 1100 Warren Ave., where Squyres allegedly walked out of the store without paying for a Smirnoff Ice liquor. Squyres is accused of cursing the woman when she told him to pay for the flavored beer.

The employee told a police officer who was inside the store what had occurred. The officer approached Squyres and identified himself as a police officer. Squyres fled.

Some other officers who were passing the area saw an officer try to stop Squyres at gunpoint, but Squyres was able to leave in his vehicle.

Squyres stopped his maroon Chevrolet Tahoe at the west end of ASH’s parking lot. He was in the vehicle when officers with their weapons drawn ordered him out of the vehicle.

Squyres got out of the vehicle without incident. He was handcuffed and searched. Officers found a 10-old-baby inside the vehicle in a child restraint seat. Squyres allegedly told officers the baby’s mother was at work at Robbie G’s. The mother, who was walking toward the scene, got her baby from the vehicle.

Officers allegedly found a handgun in a case in the pocket of the driver’s door.

Squyres,  who appeared to be unsteady and smelled of alcohol, refused to cooperate with officers by taking a field sobriety test. A judge signed a search warrant to conduct a blood test.

He was placed in the placed in the vehicle and began to beat his head on the plastic cage. Officers ordered him to stop.
