Crime Stoppers of Cenla hosted its annual Appreciation Lunch today at the Best Western in honor retired Alexandria Police Chief Darren Coutee.

Coutee left the Alexandria Police Department in January following almost 40 years of law enforcement in various capacities ranging from patrol officer to chief of police. In recognition of his career, both the City of Alexandria and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office declared the day as Chief Darren Coutee Day.

Both Kay Miguel, Alexandria’s chief of staff, and Sheriff Charles Wagner Jr. presented Coutee with proclamations.

In other business, Darryl Andrews, president of Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, said the annual luncheon is designed to show appreciation to law enforcement, board members and community members for “what you do for Crime Stoppers and promoting it in your communities.”

Andrews reported, Crime Stoppers received $54,000 from arrests and revenues from tickets issued. The money is used to award tipsters for information received to help solve crimes.

Crime Stoppers received 255 tips over the past year. With the tips, 57 cases were cleared. Award money totaled about $16,900, Andrews said.

In addition to the tip line, Crime Stoppers also sponsored Kids Night Out with the Alexandria Police Department and several Back to School events.
