Marvin Leon Butler, 52, 5507 New York Ave., Alexandria, was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder in connection with the 2009 death of Richard Staten, 48, of the same address.

Butler was arrested Tuesday in Shreveport. He was transported to Alexandria and booked into the Rapides Parish Jail, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

On Sept. 24, 2009, officers responded to a battery at the New York Avenue home. They talked to Staten, who allegedly told officers he was sitting on the porch when Butler’s girlfriend asked for a clothes hanger. When Staten gave the hanger to the woman, Butler allegedly took the hanger and struck him across the head leaving a knot on the left side of Staten’s head.

At that time, Staten told police Butler allegedly swung a machete at him cutting him on the hand leaving a minor cut on the left hand.

Acadian Ambulance took Staten to Christus St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, where he later died.
