John Wayne Madden, 29, turned himself in to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office to answer a charge of second-degree battery for which he is accused of shooting his sister’s boyfriend Monday night, according to Sheriff Charles F. Wagner Jr.

Madden, whose last known address was the Guest House Inn hotel on MacArthur Drive, allegedly went to his sister’s Pineville home and demanded she give two of her children cell phones she had taken away from them due to them allegedly making prank phone calls. Madden bought the cell phones as Christmas gifts for his sister’s children.

After an argument with his sister’s boyfriend, Donald Ray Fiker went into the bedroom to get the phones to give back to Madden. The sister said Madden allegedly pulled a black pistol from the front of his pants and hit Fiker in the head with the weapon. Fiker tried to fight off Madden but was shot in the waist area once.

Fiker was treated at Rapides Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. A warrant was issued for Madden, who along with his wife allegedly fled in a maroon Mercury car.
