Free health screenings at three Cenla Walgreens

With the number of diabetes cases nationwide increasing 90 percent over the past decade, diabetes has become the fastest-growing disease in the U.S. In fact, it’s estimated more than 6 million Americans are unaware that they are currently living with diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association.

Furthering its commitment to diabetes awareness and early disease prevention, Walgreens  the will offer free blood glucose testing at all Walgreens 24-hour stores and Take Care Clinics nationwide.

In Central Louisiana those screenings will be offered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Walgreens at 2008 S. Fifth St. in Leesville; from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Walgreens at 4444 Jackson St. in Alexandria; and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Walgreens at 3100 La. Highway 28 East in Pineville.

This marks the second time in four months that Walgreens has offered free blood glucose testing, as part of its ongoing effort to stop diabetes and its commitment to providing quality, accessible health care.

“We’re proud to offer these free blood glucose testing events as another means to heighten diabetes awareness and overall health and wellness,” said Kermit R. Crawford, Walgreens executive vice president of pharmacy services. “We want everyone who’s concerned about diabetes to be able to get tested. Through interaction with our pharmacists and Take Care nurse practitioners, and the many tools and resources Walgreens offers, we hope to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes or at risk for diabetes.”

Blood glucose testing is available to patients 18 years and older at select Walgreens stores through Feb. 18 and is subject to availability. For more information and to find the nearest event, visit www.walgreens.com/diabetes.
